“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.”
Joseph Campbell
I’ve been thinking about this for years. Dreaming up all the possibilities. It always seemed so far away, like a distant land, a mirage. I have had lots of dreams in my life! I’m a very good dreamer. And I’m happy to share that I really do get to experience my dreams so often and, most times, very quickly. However, this one dream still felt out of reach. Since I’m also a very good journaler, I have devoted some time to explore this area of my life.
After some reflection, I had a few answers:
- Nothing is really either big or small. It’s only in how we perceive it. This seemed big. Why? Cost. Time. Where I am spiritually. Again time…my family has always been so important to me.
- There is always something else that has come first, and I now see that everything that came first had to come first. It’s part of the journey. Like a perfect unfolding of a flower, it is incremental. You don’t go from bud to full bloom without the unfolding. I am so much better equipped to balance attending training with family life now that I know balance is necessary. And, I am more equipped to be present for others from a well of inner awareness and a more loving compassionate heart.
- As a dreamer, I see things way ahead of the curve. This means that when I follow my inner nudges, I let myself begin preparing the space before me. When I get there, I am ready for it!
- The reason this may have seemed so far away is that I’ve done so much inner work, so much exploration, that I know what my soul intends to do long before my human experience knows how to do it. All those steps in between are the bridge.
Follow Your Bliss…
At the start of the new year, I wrote a list of things I wanted to do in 2018! The first step was daring to write them down, ink to paper. The root of the word courage comes from the Sanskrit, meaning heart…
Follow your bliss and have the courage to acknowledge your heart’s longings.
“If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”
Joseph Campbell
I didn’t know how it would happen, but I completely trusted that everything would work out. I wondered sometimes if I should be doing more to get to these places, but as Joseph Campbell says, “The life you ought to be living is the life you are living.” It reminds me to stay the course. Live blissfully in the present moment and the magic and miracles will lead the way.
Last week, I signed up to do Yoga Teacher Training, and it was as seamless as it could be. I can say that now that I’ve come through to the other side. Though I saw myself moving in this direction, things still came up. For a minute, I thought it might be easier to take courses to renew my teaching license and go back in the classroom. I know how to do that! I’m good at it. And I would know my salary. But then my bliss came along and reminded me that I’ve been there already. I’ve spent many hours inside those four walls. Now, the door is wide open! And, since I am a traveler, it’s time to visit this new landscape.
I have a tickle in my tummy. I’m excited! Yes, I’m a little nervous, too. But then I remember to breathe. I notice that those feelings are one in the same. Yoga is the perfect place for me to be right now. It is a place where I can notice how everything I’ve done so far has brought me here. A place where following my bliss will bless my life.
Namaste,
