Sittin’ Pretty Still

The world is full of magic things patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.

W.B. Yeats

Imagine my surprise on Christmas morning when I opened a gift from my husband and found an amazing meditation cushion. It was love at first sight! Yes, with both my husband and my cushion. I can tell you the beautiful story of how I met my husband another time (it’s the most magical story I know!) but, for now, I’ll share about my beautiful cushion. When I saw someone using this same brand of cushion in a class, I inquired about it, shared my excitement with my husband, and then I let it go. Months later… the magic of the universe unfolded.

The reason I want to tell you all about it is because, as someone who has practiced yoga and meditation for over a decade, I have learned to tune in and listen to my body. There are some poses I do differently than I did when I first started practicing yoga. And, I have also found it sweeter to sit in an actual comfy chair to do meditation rather than sit on the floor with legs crossed in easy seat…which isn’t always so easy for me. It’s made a difference to honor my body and, in turn, my body is taking pretty good care of me!

When I Fill Myself to Overflowing…

I discovered it’s really wonderful to use props, add comfort, and let my body flow with more grace and ease. Applying this lesson to yoga and meditation creates new pathways to living with more grace and ease beyond the mat. In fact, when I give myself this kind of love and attention, I am certainly more aware. It is an invitation to give love and attention to everyone around me.

I was so thankful for this amazing and beautiful cushion. I love the color, the name, the feel, and its endless uses. Most of all, it really does help me sit pretty still with a more powerful posture, better alignment, and more space in my body, My heart was filled with so much joy that it overflowed in the form of a thank you note to the company. And the owner wrote back with such appreciation.

The Gift of Stillness…

I have given myself the gift of stillness, and my husband gave me the gift of Sittin’ Pretty Still. I think there’s a certain magic worth noting…that when you start to give yourself more attention and care, the universe aligns with you and those around you are nudged to join you on your quest. Aside from having one of the most thoughtful husbands ever, I believe in the power of simply taking time to sit, breathe, and relax.

from my heart to yours,
